built 644 days ago
A Tamagotchi is a virtual pet that is housed in an egg-shaped computer. There are three buttons that allow the user to play games, feed, clean up and check the health and happiness of their pet.

The Tamagotchi lets kids experience all the fun of raising a pet -- without the responsibility and mess. With a larger display and enhanced graphics, the advanced toy features infrared technology that allows owners to "connect" their virtual pets together to play games, trade gifts and become friends, while storing a "Friend List" of up to 45 pals in their egg. Once an adult, the character can "connect" with a compatible friend and hatch more generations that can be nurtured and played with for endless fun. The more interaction, the more "Gotchi" Points are earned that can then be used for shopping in the Tamagotchi and on the TamaTown.com Web site.

This DS simulation title has you and your pet Tamagotchi open a store. You can select from three different Tamagotchi types and give your new little friend a name. The game includes a variety of shop types, including a bakery and a dentist. The DS's special features come into play quite clearly when you choose to open up a dentist office. The top screen shows the reception area. You start off by accepting patients and listing to their troubles.

Bandai revived the Tamagotchi craze, and the company is now trying to do the same with DigiMon. Eight years after the DigiMon toys first appeared (and subsequently launched card games and anime), they will go sale again November 23rd. Save for the fact they fight and kill each other, these "digital monsters" are slightly similar to the Tamagotchi key chain toys, which have sex via infrared light. Ah, the innocence of childhood. more

If you didn't get sick of the original keychain Tamagotchi, then you'll probably flip head-over-heels for this Game Boy revision. But if you grew tired of the tiny chirping plastic menace years ago, you'd be best to let this one sit. ~ Colin Williamson, All Game Guide

It's not Tamagotchi, but rather a cutely drawn and engagingly sweet world that does very little to be interesting. Just having what Tamagotchi was ever meant to be would have made the dull tasks bearable, as a means for buying more toys and tools for playing with your virtual pet. But inexplicably they didn't do that. Which makes their game a bit rubbish, really.
