T1 Connection
built 115 days ago
T-1 T-3 Internet T1 speed connections aren't just for large corporations any more. As pricing declines many people are opting for the more reliable and flexible service over a DSL connection. Also, the growing number of bandwidth hungry applications like ASP service, VOIP, streaming video and graphic heavy files is pushing the demand for more reliable connections. So, what does it take to get one of these connections?
A T1 connection operates at 1.544 million bits per second and allows data to travel in both directions simultaneously. If a full T1 is not needed, it can be "fractionalized" or divided into lower speed connections. Each of these fractions is 64Kbits/sec meaning that any increment of 64Kbits/sec can be selected.

Line coding for a T1 connection is either AMI or B8ZS. B8ZS is introduced on a circuit to ensure that the 12.5-percent-ones-density requirement is always met. B8ZS is actually an AMI-encoded circuit that includes additional unique code whenever the transmitted signal contains eight zeros in a row. A B8ZS circuit appears to be optioned as an AMI circuit unless the signal meets the eight-consecutive-zeros requirement.
Critical connections should be supported with a T1. In addition, a critical connection can be viewed much like a lifeline, without which your business would be negatively impacted. Your monthly savings of having a sub-par connections will not make up for the loss in productivity of your employees or loss of customers when your DSL connections gets bogged down or cut off.

When two sites are connected by a T1 wide area network (WAN) link, you may be unable to map a drive or gain access to resources across the WAN. In some cases, Windows NT Server-based or Windows NT Workstation-based computers in the workgroup may be unable to join the domain.
