If you're a fan of the genre, or of controllable violence in general, then Syndicate Wars might be the perfect title for you. It certainly represents an early high-point for innovative, real-time-strategy games, incorporating a nice blend of some of the elements that made Diablo and Command and Conquer so popular. ~ Gil Shif, All Game Guide

Syndicate Wars- killin' stuff :) The story for Syndicate Wars is pretty damn good, as for the original, the story is a little weaker and with more of a Doom-type touch. :) The world is a virtual Utopia. Take the word "virtual" literally. It is really a polluted, destroyed world. Through chips implanted in people, they come to believe the world is perfect. You have to take over the world by various means in the first Syndicate, usually by killing people or "persuading" people.

Syndicate Wars box cover Released 3 years after its classic cyberpunk predecessor, Syndicate Wars continues the story that began in Syndicate, with significant improvements all around. From the ashes of the syndicates destroyed in the first game emerged the ultimate victor, EuroCorp. The world is now firmly nestled in EuroCorp's grasp - but a technologically superior religious sect hopes to undermine their authority through a powerful computer virus. You will assume the role of either a EuroCorp Executive, or a Church of the New Epoch High Disciple in Syndicate Wars, and once again lead a team of cyborgs to victory.
The Syndicate series, particularly Syndicate Wars, is noted for its attention to detail and the intricacy of its narrative. Syndicate Wars' standard manual addresses the player as a newly-hired Executive. The entire manual was designed to pull the player into the story and atmosphere as much as possible. Notable features of both games are the use of context-sensitive background music which changes to suit the mood of the on-screen action, and a high degree of interactivity, in that many objects in the first game and nearly every object in the second game can be destroyed. The visual aesthetic of both games borrows heavily from films such as Blade Runner.
Syndicate Wars for PC Review - PC Syndicate Wars Review Unfortunately, the people of Syndicate Wars are represented by small, harsh-looking, pixelated sprites. Distinguishing harmless civilian from deadly foe may prove difficult at first, and the onscreen radar will do little to help because its color coding is not immediately obvious. And while the vast cityscapes are rendered in high-resolution SVGA, their residents look blocky at all times. Syndicate Wars ... falls short in the audio department; vicious firefights between EuroCorp and the Church seem stale because of repetitive and decidedly uninspired grunts issued by battle victims. Luckily, though, the explosions are just as impressive on the ears as they are on the eyes.
