There are over 35 airlines that fly in and out of Sydney Airport with multiple daily flights linking Sydney with key city destinations in the Pacific, Asia, Europe and North America. The tribal life of the Aboriginal people of the Sydney region had ... been effectively destroyed by 1820. Bishop Broughton later told a House of Commons Select Committee that by taking over the land and driving away the kangaroos and other game European settlement had made Aboriginal life in the traditional manner impossible. Survivors of the various clans around Port Jackson combined into a kind of "Sydney tribe" with their main camp on the north shore of the harbour; remnants of the clans on the southern side gathered on a campsite near the heads at Botany.

Since It's not a major international transport hub, when people fly to Sydney, they usually stay here for at least few days. Unless you're a drug mule who's mistakenly come via Sydney on your way to North America (...or you are en route to NZ, Melbourne or Perth) there's a good chance you'll be here for over 24 hours. For arguments sake, let's pretend you've just landed in Sydney only to find out you've picked up a rare form of Avian Influenza (somehow managing to give quarantine the slip). You've got a snotty nose, a temperature, and 24 hours left to live. What are you going to do? Seek medical treatment for a virus that's probably going to kill you anyway - or battle your way through 24 hours of breathing difficulties, chest pains and lethargy to enjoy your last moments on earth?

Kingsford Smith International Airport, located in the suburb of Mascot, is Sydney's main airport, and the oldest continuously operating commercial airport in the world. The smaller Bankstown Airport mainly serves private and general aviation. There are light aviation airfields at Hoxton Park and Camden. RAAF Base Richmond lies to the north-west of the city.
