Sweeney Todd: Pies

Movie Minutes: 'Sweeney Todd' “Sweeney Todd” is a fable about a world from which the possibility of justice has vanished, replaced on one hand by vain and arbitrary power, on the other by a righteous fury that quickly spirals into madness. There may be a suggestion of hopefulness near the end, but you don’t see hope on the screen. What you see is as dark as the grave. What you hear — some of the finest stage music of the past 40 years — is equally infernal, except that you might just as well call it heavenly.
Sweeney Todd may not be a wholly fictional character. In two books,[1][2] Peter Haining argues that Sweeney Todd was an historical figure who committed his crimes around 1800. Nevertheless, other researchers who have tried to verify his citations find nothing in these sources to back Haining's claims.[3][4][5] There is... a similar story reputed to have occurred on the Rue de la Harpe in Paris that likely influenced the stories of Todd as well.[6]
Sweeney Todd On the winter roster, John Doyle's innovative revival of Sweeney Todd will star Broadway legend Judy Kaye. The Two and Only, which won the Summer Musicals and Mr. Jenkins a Tony for best special theatrical event last June, will ... play at the Majestic next month.
Sweeney Todd in Concert Since Sweeney Todd first entered the public imagination in the mid-nineteenth-century, his exploits have chilled and fascinated audiences around the world. This new edition allows modern readers to savor the ghastly original in all its gruesome glory.

Sweeney Todd and the String of Pearls: An Audio Melodrama in Three Despicable Acts was published as an audiobook in September 2007 by Blackstone Audio as part of the Hollywood Theatre of the Ear. The production was written/produced/directed by Yuri Rasovsky and featured Rosalind Ayres, Robertson Dean, Martin Jarvis, Moira Quirk, W. Morgan Sheppard and Simon Templeman.
Among other things, this is a story of murder and revenge, and Sweeney Todd carries out his horrid tasks with a gory vengeance. The film is bloody, even somehow surprisingly so despite an understanding of the content and its R-rating. The arterial sprays gush with a red enthusiasm that rival wounds inflicted by Toshirô Mifune. While the character’s of Todd and Mrs. Lovette are sympathetic and even likable, the film doesn’t try to pretty up what they’re doing. Murder is an ugly thing, even when people deserve it.
