The Kingdom of Sweden (Konungariket Sverige in Swedish) is a Nordic country in Scandinavia, in Northern Europe. It is bordered by Norway on the west and Finland in the northeast; the rest of it borders waters, as the Baltic Sea and Kattegat. Due to the relatively small number of inhabitants, Sweden's landscape is known for its peace and the large forests and mountanous wilderness.

Sweden has a temperate climate despite its northern latitude, mainly because of the Gulf Stream. In the mountains of northern Sweden a sub-Arctic climate predominates. North of the Arctic Circle, the sun never sets for part of each summer, and in the winter, night is similarly unending.
Although Sweden still suffers from being generally expensive like the rest of Scandinavia, recent devaluation of the Swedish Krona has made Sweden a lot more affordable. Sweden is a large country although it is quite sparsely populated, this means that there is plenty of unspoiled scenery and the northern part of the country is well in the Arctic Circle where you will be able to find year long skiing and stunning glacial vistas. Sweden has a reputation for being cosmopolitan and cities such as Gothenburg and the capital Stockholm offer a host of facilities, services and cultural attractions. It is of course impossible to go to Sweden without sampling a Smorgasbord or indulging in a little of Sweden's famous Absolute vodka.

noframe Adventurous diners might want to try surströmming, which is (coastal) central and northern Sweden's entry in the revolting-foods-of-the-world contest. It's herring which is fermented in a tin can until the can starts to bulge and almost bursts. It all gets so foul-smelling that the fish is only eaten outdoors to keep it from stinking up the house, although it has been known for unsuspecting visitors from other countries to be "treated" to an indoor surströmming experience for more intensity.

The delta of Rapadalen in Laponia. Laponia is the largest tract of unspoiled natural land in Europe. At 449,964 km² (173,732 sq mi), Sweden is the 55th largest country in the world. It is the 5th largest in Europe, and the largest in Northern Europe. The country is slightly larger than the U.S. state of California, with a population in 2006 of 9.1 million people.
