Suzuki Xl-7
built 178 days ago
The XL-7 is Suzuki's offering against the Ford Explorer, GMC Envoy and Toyota Highlander. All are higher priced and have established niches in the resale market. The Suzuki doesn't have any history yet. The XL-7 doesn't get high marks in ride quality, and it certainly isn't quiet on the road, either. The manufacturer claims 17 mpg gallon in city driving, but the Consumer Guide testers documented a city average between 13.6 and 15.4 mpg.

The four-door Suzuki XL-7 is available in one trim level. The five-passenger base model is well equipped with power door locks and windows; remote keyless entry; heated mirrors; cruise control; automatic climate control; daytime running lights; an adjustable center armrest; a six-speaker stereo system with an MP3-compatible CD player; and tinted privacy glass. The seven-passenger version adds a two-person third-row seat plus rear air conditioning. The Premium package adds running boards, leather seating, foglights, a power sunroof, a seven-speaker audio system with in-dash CD changer and steering wheel-mounted audio controls.
With impressive specs under the hood, the Suzuki XL-7 SUV stays competitive in its niche of the SUV market. Every model achieves 183 horsepower and 180 lbs-ft of torque thanks to the 2.7-litre, 24-valve, quad-cam, six-cylinder engine. In the 2WD category, the standard transmission for Standard and Plus vehicles is five-speed manual, with automatic the basic fare on the Tour and Limited models.

2007 Suzuki XL7 Introduced in the fourth quarter of 2006, Suzuki partnered with General Motors to build the 2007 XL-7, using the same unibody platform and many of the same components as the Chevy Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn VUE. The second generation model uses a version of the GM High Feature engine, built in Japan and shipped to CAMI Automotive in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, where the XL-7 is assembled with the Equinox and Torrent. Styling cues on the 2007 include a chrome slotted grille and trapezoidal headlights. The XL-7 is now aimed for city drivers and growing families, as the XL-7 no longer has a manual transfer case with low-range, but an on demand all-wheel drive system, now meant for handling snow and rain.

Four trims are available for the 2008 Suzuki XL-7. The Base trim is nicely equipped with power features and a CD player, but comes only in two-row, five-passenger form and only in front-wheel drive. Mid-range Premium and Luxury trims add rear climate control, heated power seats, and leather upholstery, and are available with either two or three rows. The top-of-the-line Limited adds a navigation system, foglights, larger wheels, and a rear spoiler. It is only offered in the three-row, seven-passenger configuration. A new option this year for the Limited is a rearview camera.

The plush interior of the Standard Suzuki XL-7 features front air conditioning with air filter, power windows, power door locks, and an AM/FM stereo with in-dash CD player. The seating capacity is five passengers, and additional cargo can be accommodated thanks to the split-folding rear seat. Drivers will appreciate the tilt steering wheel, as well as the cruise control function - especially on long trips.
