Superman is the last of a dying race from the planet Krypton. His Krypton name is Kal-El. His father, Jor-El was a great scientist and saw the warning signs that their planet was doomed to destruction. A council heard his discoveries, but dismissed them and forbid Jor-El to speak of this to anyone. Realizing that his family was in danger, Jor-El started to construct a rocket that would take him, his son and wife Lara away from Krypton, but it was too late.
Superman's super-powers are by and large, extraordinary magnifications of ordinary human abilities. Just as an ordinary man can hurl a baseball, Superman can hurl an entire planet. Just as an ordinary man can see across the room, Superman can see across the universe.
This picture is so funny that the judges of the "funniest damn thing in the universe" award vomited up their own testicles upon seeing it. Poo Flinging: Just like a trained monkey, Superman has the ability to fling his own poop thousands of miles. This proves useful when he is pitted against his most powerful enemies, kryptonite and Hugh Jackman.
Superman is well-known for its large-scale special effects sequences, all of which were created without the benefit of computer-generated imagery. The sets of Krypton were built at Pinewood Studios with the "Kryptonian Council Dome" being designed as a miniature. The Golden Gate Bridge miniature stood 70 feet long, and 20 feet wide. During the construction of the scene involving the Hoover Dam, a miniature was built and as an affect to simulate the vast amount of water, slow motion (an over-cranked camera) was put in process. The Fortress of Solitude was a full-scale set, though some scenes required matte paintings. The Destruction of Krypton was ... filmed on a full-scale set, though would eventually be crushed to pieces.
The impenetrable fortress, carved out of a mountainside amidst the barren Arctic wastes, and serving as both as a retreat and a headquarters, it is Superman’s secret sanctuary. Far from civilization with an extraordinary trophy room, it houses the hard won memorabilia of more than a thousand adventures, a workshop and super-laboratory, where Superman labors in search of an antidote to Kryptonite and performs other experiments and the gymnasium and recreation facilities where Superman exercises, relaxes, and indulges in a variety of super hobbies. It ... houses an interplanetary zoo, containing live species of wildlife from distant planets, as well as special rooms and memorials in honor of Superman’s parents, foster parents, and closest friends. The Fortress of Solitude is also home to the amazing bottle city of Kandor, a city of the planet Krypton that was reduced to microscopic size and stolen by the space villain Brainiac sometime prior to the death of Krypton. In the Fortress of Solitude, there are also special monitors for communicating with Kandor, the undersea realm of Atlantis, the Phantom Zone, countless distant planets, and alien dimensions. The Fortress of Solitude also houses an incredible collection of Superman-robots, other special equipment, numerous other rooms, exhibits, weapons, machines, and scientific devices.
Aside from red sun radiation, Superman's main weakness is Kryptonite, radioactive shards of his former home planet. Exposure to Kryptonite will rob Superman of his power, and with prolonged exposure, will kill him.
