In 1991, Nintendo released its follow-up to the original Nintendo Entertainment System, entitled the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or SNES for short. The NES was a considered to be a huge success only in Asia and the United States, but the SNES became a worldwide phenomenon. In the era of 16-bit consoles, the Super Nintendo was the best-selling system of the time.

The future of fan-driven SNES emulation... may be in question due to Nintendo's announcement at the 2005 Electronic Entertainment Expo that the upcoming Revolution console will feature the capability to emulate all of Nintendo's past consoles. Considering this, Nintendo may take a much harder stance against emulation in the future.

The Super NES Mouse- A two-button mouse with an identical color scheme to the SNES console. This accessory had the same amount of support as the Super Scope, which wasn't much. The games that used it were either cursor guided games or light gun games that used the mouse as the gunsight. Besides Mario Paint, there was Lemmings 2, T2: The Arcade Game, and Mario & Wario.

The FC Twin console uses Super Nintendo compatible controllers and devices such as the Super Scope, but cannot use Nintendo compatible controllers and devices such as the NES Zapper peripheral for Duck Hunt. The Super Nintendo controller buttons otherwise map to the NES controller inputs.
