Very fast, very fun, and very Mario, Super Mario Kart is a new racing game for the SNES. Players can choose from 8 different characters, including Mario, Princess Toadstool, Bowser, and Donkey Kong Jr. Players can challenge the computer, or they can challenge each other in a split screen two-player mode. A Grand Prix mode is included, as well as a battle mode where players are armed with Koopa shells and bannana peels. Many different tracks taken directly from the Mario Universe await players in this stunning title.

Super Mario Kart is the first game of the Mario Kart series. It was released on the Super Nintendo, in its early years. It is an instant classic, and is considered to be the best Mario Kart game to many fans. It was the first go-karting game that appeared on the Super Nintendo.
The cups and tracks from Super Mario Kart for the SNES are available in Super Circuit. They have been retitled the Extra Cups. These cups are unlockable by winning a Gold Trophy for the corresponding regular cup and then collecting 100 coins in the same cup.
In Super Mario Kart, your perspective is from slightly above and behind your kart similar to Nintendo's own F-Zero. The tracks spin and wind beneath you with incredible smoothness, although the backgrounds are pretty flat. There are several ways to play, the racing games all involve the obvious get to the end objective, with a special "battle mode" for two players mixing up the action a little. In battle mode, you have to hunt and destroy your opponent's kart in a pseudo-virtual-reality contest.

Super Mario Kart can be played by one or two players. All gameplay uses a horizontal split screen view. In single player mode, the top displays the course, while the bottom screen can either display a rear-view mirror perspective, or an overhead view of the whole track, displaying where all the racers are currently. In multiplayer, the bottom screen is assigned to the second player's view.
Everything about Mario Kart Super Circuit exudes quality. From the animated menus to the colorful instruction manual, an extraordinary amount of attention was paid to every detail of the overall presentation. The beautifully realized track designs go beyond standard forest and desert-based levels to include creative environments like Cheese Land and Ribbon Road, with rain even falling on one track. Different music plays on each stage and is content specific, so there are spooky noises on a ghost track and tribal rhythms in the jungle. The overall effect is that you never feel like you're playing the same courses over and over again. Each is distinct with its own personality.
