One of the key trends in Super Bowl ads last year was the inclusion of several customer-created commercials. Brands such as Doritos, Chevy and the NFL allowed customers to submit their own ads, the best of which made it on air. When asked to rate the expected entertainment value of this year's customer-created ads, 25 percent thought they would be more entertaining than professionally produced ads compared to just 12 percent that thought they would be less entertaining. In fact, when asked which ads from last year were the most memorable, Doritos rated as the second most memorable advertisers after Anheuser-Busch, which featured several humorous spots for Bud and Bud Light.

YouTube announced today that the Tide to Go(R) "Talking Stain" ad was selected by consumers as the number one ad in their 2008 Super Bowl advertising poll. The YouTube AdBlitz is a program where users can watch and vote on Super Bowl commercials and is one of the largest consumer polls for Super Bowl ads. This year's contest received more than 20 million video views and 900,000 votes for the 63 ads that aired during the Super Bowl. Tide to Go received the highest number of votes and an average 4-1/2 out of 5 stars rating. Since its debut on February 3rd, Tide to Go's award winning ad has received widespread acclaim, including a Top 10 Finish from USA Today's annual "Ad Meter."

During this year's Super Bowl, some brands will be joining the consumer generated content bandwagon by airing commercials created, filmed, and produced by members of the general public. Among the brands intending to air these commercials are Doritos, Chevrolet, and the NFL. In the months leading up to the Super Bowl, Doritos promoted consumer generated ads for its brand at http://www.crashthesuperbowl.com/ , where people could view and vote for their favorite submissions. From January 1st through January 28th, the site attracted 227,000 unique visitors, which demonstrates the broadening appeal of the consumer generated content phenomenon.
