Sunoco: United States

OREGON -- "Sunoco Inc. received state environmental permits yesterday that allow $200 million worth of work at its refinery along the East Toledo-Oregon border. Olivia Summons, Sunoco spokesman, said the Philadelphia-based company was pleased by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency's decision to issue a permit for installing more pollution controls and expanding the refinery.

To date over 270 Sunoco gas station locations have replaced their signs with the SYLVANIA ICETRON. The major advantage for Sunoco is the 10-year relamp cycle with the ICETRON systems, thereby greatly reducing the overall cost of their sign maintenance program.
In 2003, the Speedway SuperAmerica chain of gas stations and convenience stores exited the southeast United States and sold most of their operations to Sunoco. Shortly prior to this, Sunoco acquired many service stations from Coastal Petroleum, especially its stations in Florida. This has led to the reintroduction of the Sunoco brand to areas it pulled out of several years earlier.
The United States now burns an average of 1.5 million barrels more fuel daily than it can refine, which means Sunoco can sell every drop it makes. The nation is, for the first time, importing large amounts of refined fuel daily.
