Sugar Gliders: Owners
built 605 days ago
· Sugar Gliders are often kept as pets. They adapt well to humans and develop strong relational bonds with their owners. They are communal animals that need and crave attention from you, the owner, or another Sugar Glider
Sugar Gliders are one of the latest trendy pets. They are small nocturnal marsupials, which means they start out as young living in a pouch. They have a small fold of skin connecting their front legs to their hind, and in the wild they use this to glide between trees. They are omnivorous, eating both meat and plants. They are highly social animals and do not do well if kept alone. They require a lot of interaction, either with members of their own kind, or with their human owner.

Sugar gliders are social animals, which means they live in groups. They get along with and love the company other sugar gliders, and many sugar glider owners choose to have more than one glider. It is their social nature that allows them to develop strong bonds with their human owners. But it is ... that social nature that creates their need for attention from their owners. Sugar gliders are not the kind of pet that can be left for long periods of time without any attention from their owners. The more time you spend with your sugar glider, the more he will become bonded with you.
Sugar gliders make various sounds that can be described as barking, grumbling, crabbing, or fussing. An experienced glider owner can tell the difference between the noises. The gliders usually make the crabbing or fussing noises when they are disturbed, either by a human or another glider. The barking is a noise that they usually make at night. This is a type of call they make to one another. Some owners would say that their gliders are quiet and others would say that their gliders make a lot of noise especially at night. Often times night time barking is a way to get your attention or to come and play!
Sugar gliders are omnivores, which means they will eat both plants and animals (insects). They are from Australia. There they eat crickets, mealworms and other insects that are attracted to light sources put up by their owners. They can ... be fed high quality kitten food and love (and need) fresh fruits. Sugar gliders need to get calcium through their diet and insects are not made of enough calcium to meet the sugar glider's needs; therefore supplementation with calcium salts is recommended.

Sugar gliders have the ability to glide through the air using a gliding membrane, known as a patagium. They have been observed to glide up to 300 feet! Because of this, it is important to have a habitat that will allow these pets freedom of movement to jump, swing and glide. It is recommended that a glider habitat be a minimum 10 feet by 10 feet by 10 feet. That is pretty large for the average pet owner! This ... ensures that gliders get enough exercise.
