According to a recent study carried out by the US Committee for Refugees, people killed in Southern Sudan and on the Nuba Mountains from 1893 to 1998 are 1,900,00. “The loss of human lives in the Sudanese civil war is far higher than the death-rate in any other civil war in the world” reads the report. There are five million internally displaced people and refugees in Sudan. Environmental degradation is one of the driving forces of displacement and the environment is being further undermined by the sheer scale of displaced people and refugees in some areas.
