built 629 days ago
People who suspect they have strep throat are urged to consult a physician. A physical examination and medical history may be performed, although the only way to identify the presence of strep throat is with a throat culture and/or rapid strep test. The rapid stress test is similar to a throat culture, but with much faster results.
The incubation period for strep throat is thought to be between two to five days. One outbreak’s incubation period was two to eight days. It began in a dormitory when 394 primary and secondary cases had positive throat cultures between May 20th and May 28th. Later it was found the outbreak started from 2 cooks who were positive for GAS .... 268 of a total of 943 students who ate the suspected food from May 18th became GAS positive.[12]

Your caregiver may do a rapid strep test. This is a test that can be done while you wait. Your caregiver may ... put a throat swab in a special tube and send it to the lab.

If you need to be tested for strep throat, the choice between a rapid strep test and a throat culture may not be clear. It may be helpful to discuss with your health professional the advantages and disadvantages of each test. For instance, results from a rapid strep test are available within 10 to 15 minutes, while results from a throat culture may take 1 to 2 days. However, a throat culture is more accurate.

Two kinds of tests are available for strep throat. Both involve taking a throat culture, which is done by using a cotton swab to remove a sample of tissue from the sore area in the throat. The sample can then be used for a rapid strep test or a culture.
