Oliver Stone ist bekennender Drogenkonsument, was ihn bereits mehrfach mit dem Gesetz in Konflikt brachte. Zur Zeit der Arbeit an Scarface erholte er sich gerade von Kokainsucht. Auf der DVD zu Natural Born Killers berichtet die Produzentin Jane Hamsher, Stone habe während des Drehs Zauberpilze konsumiert. Auch während des Drehs zu Platoon soll der Regisseur mit seinen Darstellern Marihuana geraucht haben, um eine Szene, in der die Soldaten Marihuana rauchen, so realistisch wie möglich wirken zu lassen.

Pummeled by U.S. critics this week, Oliver Stone told reporters in Stockholm Wednesday that he expects European critics will give his latest movie, Alexander, a warmer welcome. Interviewed at the Stockholm International Film Festival where he received a lifetime achievement award, the writer-director said, "I think one of the reasons I am being honored here in Sweden is that [Europeans] tend to see me a little differently than they do in the U.S."

Jennifer Lopez once broke down in tears in front of director Oliver Stone in an attempt to avoid having to film a raunchy sex scene. Lopez was terrified of shooting a love-making sequence, in which she appears topless, with co-star Sean Penn in Stone's 1997 movie U Turn. But, despite her theatrical protest, Lopez still ended up having to endure the uncomfortable moment. She says, "Urgh. Yeah, the sex scenes were bad. It was hard being the only woman on set with those strong men.
