1. Options -- Stock Options
   Options are most frequently used by individual investors as either leverage or insurance. As leverage, options allow the holder to control equity in a limited capacity without paying the full price of buying shares up front. The difference can be invested elsewhere until the option is exercised. As insurance, options can protect against price fluctuations in the near term because they provide the right acquire the underlying stock at a fixed price for a limited time.
2. Option Investing -- Stocks
   It is easier to understand what happens during a stock option investing transaction if you use a practical example to understand the intricacies of this process. Imagine that Ms. Money Bags purchases a call from Mr. Cash Wad. The terms of the call specify that Ms. Money Bags may purchase 100 shares of XYZ Corporation’s stock at $10 per share any time between August 1, 2006 and August 1, 2007. If Ms. Money Bags chooses to exercise this option any time before the expiration date, Mr. Cash Wad must sell the shares to her at the agreed-upon price. How does this help Ms. Money Bags make a profit? Well, Ms. Money Bags is a smart investor--she arranged to be able to buy that stock at the $10 per share strike price any time before the expiration date.

   CB Richard Ellis Group options will trade on the March expiration cycle with exercise limits set at 7,500,000 shares. The issue will be traded by lead market makers Ross Goodheart, Ken Keating and Barterv Vartanian of Group One Trading, LP.
7. Broadcom -- Stock
   As part of the deal, Broadcom will assume all of Siliquent’s unvested employee stock options, which will entitle the holders to receive up to approximately 200,000 shares of Broadcom stock upon vesting. That could bring the total value of the deal from $76 million in cash and stock to $83.7 million, based on Broadcom’s stock price of $38.39 at Monday’s close.
8. Stocks -- Money
   When it comes to financing a purchase of stocks there are two ways: purchasing stock with money that is currently in the buyers ownership, or by buying stock on margin. Buying stock on margin means buying stock with money borrowed against the stocks in the same account. These stocks, or collateral, guarantee that the buyer can repay the loan; otherwise, the stockbroker has the right to sell the stock (collateral) to repay the borrowed money. He can sell if the share price drops below the margin requirement, at least 50% of the value of the stocks in the account. Buying on margin works the same way as borrowing money to buy a car or a house, using the car or house as collateral. Moreover, borrowing is not free; the broker usually charges 8-10% interest.
