The site generated over 140,000 opt in email addresses purely on the Ashes game after its launch on July 21 this year. The busiest day of the summer saw over 100,000 people playing on the same day. Stick Cricket is an Adobe Flash cricket game website. The game was developed originally by Cann Creative, a company from Sydney, Australia. Although this created initial awareness for the Stick Cricket website increased traffic generation through viral means meant that the deal was only required to be a one-off. The existence of viral marketing meant that the developers did not require database sharing as they were generating sufficient traffic regardless. However, these initial links may have gone some way to developing the viral means that they subsequently benefited from.

There have been minor updates since then, such as the inclusion of 3 different modes: the Knockout Tournament, based on the ICC Champions Trophy format; the all-star slog where you try to get as many runs as you can in 10 Overs; and the Practice Mode, where you could practice 10 overs against a certain type of bowling.

If the batter succeeded not to be put out by striking out or having the cricket caught by a fielder, he had a third step to throw the stick in the air and batting the cricket out into the field.
