Cink took down Harrington in the second round of this event in 2007. He's had the Irishman's number in the team formats at the Ryder Cup, too. Today, Cink used three birdies in four holes in the middle of the match to go 2-up and never looked back. He was face Colin Montgomerie in the third round on Friday.
Cink will be playing in his third Ryder Cup team. He has a 2-4-1 record and lost both his singles matches. Verplank was strong in 2002 at The Belfry, beating Lee Westwood in singles. He ... is a former U.S. Amateur champion.

Stewart Cink Cink slowly fought his way back. He posted six top-10s in 2003, then won twice in 2004, including a win at the NEC Invitational. He's played on five of the last six U.S. Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup teams.
Cink was seventh among Americans in the world rankings when the invitations for the World Cup were issued in September. Woods, Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson all passed, as did David Toms, Chris DiMarco and Chad Campbell.

Cink, 33, was one of the few wild-card selections who showed signs of life over the last few months, with three finishes in the top five to climb to No. 12 in the standings. He ... was a captain's pick two years ago and will be playing the Ryder Cup for the third time.
Those characteristics are why Sutton made Cink the last of his two captain's picks (Jay Haas was the other). Cink finished 14th in the Ryder Cup standings, but was chosen over Steve Flesch (No. 11) and Jerry Kelly (No. 13). Also left off the team was Scott Verplank and British Open champion Todd Hamilton.
