Steve Winwood Tickets With a career spanning five decades, Steve Winwood still manages to maintain a strong worldwide fan base. A former member of both the Spencer Davis Group and Traffic, he has had a string of top ten albums and singles both sides of the Atlantic.

Winwood began to be seen more often, now looking groomed and well preserved. Island Records were able to reap rewards by projecting him towards a younger market. His European tour in 1983 was a revelation, a super-fit Steve, looking 20 years younger, bounced on stage wearing a portable keyboard and ripped into Junior Walker's "Roadrunner". It was as if the 17-year-old "Stevie" from the Spencer Davis Group had returned. His entire catalogue was performed with energy and confidence. It was hard to believe this was the same man who for years had hidden shyly behind banks of amplifiers and keyboards with Traffic.

Eric became an admirer of Steve’s talent while Eric was in John Mayalls Bluesbreakers and Steve was a member of the Spencer Davis Group. Since the Spencer Davis Group had its roots in the R&B camp, they often shared the same bill. Eric occasionally sat in with the group.
It was Muff Winwood who came up with the name Spencer Davis Group on the pretext that the articulate Davis could do the interviews while the others could stay in bed. Their first single release by the group in April 1964 was a cover of the John Lee Hooker song Dimples as it was considered one of the strongest numbers they performed in their set at the time. Unfortunately, the original John Lee Hooker version was released in Britain at about the same time and became a hit ... overshadowing the Spencer Davis Group's version. The record did sell well around the West Midlands where the band had a large following.

A longtime Yamaha artist, Winwood's career has spanned decades and touched many musical genres, defying any single definition. At age fifteen, he was already playing in the blues clubs of Birmingham, England with John Lee Hooker and Memphis Slim when he joined the R&B combo The Spencer Davis Group, which spawned a series of unforgettable radio standards, including "Gimme Some Lovin'" and "I'm a Man."
