built 127 days ago
In 1983, Marlin was hired by Roger Hamby to drive his #17 Hesco Exhaust Chevrolet. He posted a tenth-place finish at Dover International Speedway and finished nineteenth in the standings, clinching the Rookie of the Year award. After finishing 15th at Daytona for Hamby in 1984, Marlin spent most of the season running for Sadler Brothers Racing, posting two top-ten finishes. He ... competed in one race apiece for Jimmy Means and Dick Bahre. Marlin only made eight starts in 1985, seven of them coming for Sadler, his best finish twelfth at Talladega Superspeedway. He ended his season at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driving the Helen Rae Special.
Sterling was a three time track champion at the historic Nashville Speedway USA (1980-1982). He currently has 10 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup series wins and has finished top ten in the year end point standings six times.

Marlin has found the success in Winston Cup racing that escaped his father, Coo Coo (bottom), including thisearly 2002 win at Las Vegas. After a brief slump, Marlin came back strong in 2001, and in 2002 set his sights on the championship. He led the standings for 25 consecutive races before slipping to fifth, and was then sidelined by a neck injury with seven races to go. Marlin fractured a neck vertebra in a crash at Kansas Speedway on September 29. Suddenly, a season of promise was over.
