Stephen Colbert: President
built 136 days ago
May 1, 2006 | Make no mistake, Stephen Colbert is a dangerous man -- a bomb thrower, an assassin, a terrorist with boring hair and rimless glasses. It's a wonder the Secret Service let him so close to the president of the United States.

Well, at least serious enough to have the lawyers look into it. Meanwhile today, Colbert has surpassed the 1 million friends mark on his “1,000,000 Strong For Stephen T. Colbert” Facebook group. So who’s behind this strategic effort to engage potential voters? A 16-year-old high school student named Raj. Now there’s even a poll suggesting that Colbert could be a presidential frontrunner in a month. What is this, Man of the Year?

Stephen has many other attributes that would make him a great president. One of the most important is that he is not a father figure. He’s more of a little brother figure. That will give him an advantage over other heads of state when he’s negotiating tough issues. He could handle Big Brother Putin with some spit balls and a few one-liners. Crazy Uncle Ahmadinejad would be begging for a glass of red and a morsel of bread (And a rosary?) when Stephen finished with him.
Ever since Stephen Colbert announced his run for president, I’ve been keeping an eye out for his web strategy. After all, this is the guy that mobilized 17,231,724 people to go online and vote to name a Hungarian bridge after him.
All the critics/pundits/bloggers who slam Colbert for making fun of Bush and the media rather than himself probably have never seen "The Colbert Report." Meanwhile, they praise Bush for doing an act with a look-alike comic, poking fun at his presidential malapropisms. As if he really had a choice.
In a statement today, Colbert said, "Although I lost by the slimmest margin in presidential election history — only 10 votes — I have chosen not to put the country through another agonizing Supreme Court battle. It is time for the nation to heal."
