Stephen Colbert: Jon Stewart
built 153 days ago
Colbert lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with his wife Evelyn McGee-Colbert, who appeared with him in an episode of Strangers with Candy as his mother. She ... had an uncredited cameo as a nurse in the series pilot, along with a credited one (as his wife, Clair) in the Strangers with Candy movie. McGee-Colbert actually met Jon Stewart, later a good friend of Colbert, before she met her husband in 1990. The couple have three children: Madeline, Peter, and John, all of whom have appeared on The Daily Show.[64] Colbert prefers, however, that his children not watch his show, The Colbert Report, saying, "Kids can't understand irony or sarcasm, and I don't want them to perceive me as insincere."[65]

In a surprise appearance on Mr. Stewart’s show just after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Mr. Colbert arrived on the back of a bicycle piloted by someone in an Uncle Sam costume. After propping up his feet on a hay bale and cracking open a bottle that looked like beer, Mr. Colbert, in character as a conservative blowhard, told Mr. Stewart that he was considering a run.

In addition to the challenge of coming after the president and his doppelgänger, Mr. Colbert struggled to find common comedic ground in a room that included politicians across the ideological spectrum, as well as reporters and Hollywood stars. In that sense, he was in good company: many of his recent predecessors — who have included Cedric the Entertainer, Jay Leno, Mr. Stewart, Ray Romano and Al Franken — were knocked, at least in some quarters, for falling flat.

As part of its defense of Viacom's billion dollar lawsuit against it, YouTube wants Viacom employees Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to testify. Also "that guy who says 'git 'er done' all the time, what's his name? He's so funny!" [CNet]

Katon Dawson, the chairman of the state Republican Party, said his office had ... received a call from Mr. Colbert’s staff — on Tuesday. The call came just hours before Mr. Colbert taped his own show (in which he said he hoped to run as both a Democrat and Republican) as well as a teaser to his announcement that appeared on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,’’ which leads into “The Colbert Report.’’

If the media were doing their jobs, maybe Colbert wouldn't feel the need to draw attention to the ridiculousness of the process. And he and Stewart would probably both be out of jobs, because it wouldn't be so easy to parody what passes for "news" coverage these days.
