The Steelers needed just four plays following that Lewis fumble to pull within 21-16 on a 12-yard touchdown pass to Hines Ward. They opened the final quarter by driving 66 yards in seven plays to take their first lead as Roethlisberger tucked it in and ran down the middle of the field for a 30-yard touchdown.

The best guess going into the offseason was that the Steelers would switch to Field Turf after the debacle of the Monday night Dolphins game. In a monsoon played on top of a field that had turned into a swamp, the Steelers won 3-0 in a game that was fascinating, but completely absent of offense.

Cribbs misplayed the ensuing kickoff, which was angled toward the Steelers' sideline and designed to give him such fits. He picked it up just short of the Browns' goal line and evaded three oncoming tacklers while barely staying inbounds, then cut it back to the middle of the field -- and eventually back to the sideline again -- and followed a pack of blockers to the endzone.
