Staten Island Yankees: New Jersey
built 129 days ago
The Staten Island Yankees went on to sweep the Brooklyn Cyclones to begin the season, and have the best start of the team’s history. At the end of June the bombers were 6-5, and in third place in the new four team McNamara Division.
The Staten Island Yankees are proud to announce a brand-new look for the 2008 season. This will be the first major uniform change the team has undergone since their second season when they went from wearing New York Yankees uniforms to the ones they wore through last year.

In addition to being a thriving business community, Staten Island is a great place to call home. The Island boasts more parkland than any other Borough, as well as beaches, cultural attractions and fast access to entertainments from apple-picking in New Jersey to a Broadway show. A family-oriented Borough, Staten Island boasts ample residential choices, excellent schools and the safety of close knit, town-based communities. Over 1,500 new units of housing are built every year on Staten Island. Housing stock ranges from town-house units starting at $75,000 to one-family luxury detached units worth over $1 million.
The Staten Island Hotel is a first-class hotel, but it's on the wrong side of the island, which still doesn't mean it's all that far away. A bed and breakfast like the Harbor House is closer to the ballpark, and there's a Hilton Garden Inn if you're into chains. Lower Manhattan has a few thousand hotel rooms, ranging from discount chains to luxury establishments. You're just a ferry ride away, and you're going to pay for it. You'll probably find somewhat more affordable options in New Jersey but you won't have the mass transit options.
Stapletons (1929-1932) Staten Island's own National Football League team. Lead by NFL hall of fame half back Ken Strong and quarterback "Grassy" Hinton. The Stapes' jerseys were solid black in the front and sleeves and white on the back with a big black number. The Stapletons were named for the Staten Island neighborhood in which they played. The Great Depression of the 1930s caused the team to disband. The Stapleton houses now occupy the Stapes' home turf on the former Thompson stadium site.

Yankees logo.gif Doesn't the new Staten Island look seem a bit familiar? Think it's coincidence that Mandalay Entertainment is heavily involved in both Staten Island and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre? That's Staten Island on the left. That's Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on the bottom. Not saying it's a bad thing, just pointing it out.
