There is no Boxart for - Startopia Take elements from Sim City, Theme Park, and Dungeon Keeper, wrap 'em up in a giant space station and you've got an idea what Startopia is about. This bizarre sim-style game will have you colonizing a series of donut-like space stations and providing a home for the various alien species that will inhabit it. You will have to balance your budget while keeping the inhabitants happy by constructing a variety of facilities from casinos and hotels to discos and boxing rings. You'll ... have neighbors to contend with and defeat through military, economic, or surreptitious means. The conquest begins when Startopia blasts off in early 2001.

Graphically, Startopia is the business. You can zoom right up close to the aliens and they still look fantastic. It is very easy to forget what you are supposed to be doing and get carried away just watch the aliens working around or dance in the disco. The graphics play a huge part in giving the game its atmosphere and Mucky Foot deserve praise for creating a game of such beauty. All the different rooms look great and the buildings that you can place on the pleasure deck are brilliant. Lighting effects have been used well and look stunning, particularly in the aforementioned disco.

Startopia Screenshots Gallery Startopia is ideal for anyone fed up with PC real-time strategy games. For instead of burying a hefty dose of brainwork deep within a complex plot and ultra-serious surroundings, Startopia goes for humour and accessibility. And it works a treat. The game is set in the aftermath of a devastating galaxy-wide war, leaving behind a barren network of space stations. You're charged with putting said space stations to good use, as you build communities, trade, attract visitors and hopefully turn them into station residents. Initially, this is easier than you think, as in true Theme Park style you build up your station (by adding new sectors) and try and pull people in. You can end up building the likes of a resort or an intergalactic trading post (depending on the objective in hand), with targets to hit before a mission is complete.

Startopia represents a paradigm shift from a single playing field to three or more. Gamers have to balance developing existing areas with expanding into new ones to achieve success. Finding the perfect balance isn't easy, but those who do will discover a subtle style of gameplay that demands more than other programs of the genre. While not for the uninitiated, the title is well worth the time and energy invested in learning. Any manager worthy of his or her salary should be reprimanded for missing this one. ~ Christopher Allen, All Game Guide

The very basic goal in Startopia is to construct buildings and make your visitors happy. Missions each have goals from curing sick aliens within a certain amount of time to incarcerating a specific number of criminals before such-and-such a time. You can ... play in sandbox mode, setting the victory conditions to anything from earning a set amount of energy to reaching a certain popularity level (hail to the king!)

Eidos Startopia Screenshot Startopia is all about creating this perfect space station environment, where everyone is happy, and everything runs along just "tickety-boo"; whatever that means. You are, of course, in charge of space station development, starting from scratch in each mission.
