One of the prominent elements of the Star Wars series is the "Force" — an omnipresent form of energy which can be harnessed by those with unique abilities. It is described in the first film as, "an energy field created by all living things [that] surrounds us, penetrates us, and binds the galaxy together." Those who can use the Force can perform feats of telekinesis, clairvoyance, precognition, and mind control, as well as amplifying certain physical traits, such as reflexes. While the Force can be used for good, it has a dark side, which, when pursued, imbues users with hatred, aggression, and malevolence. The six films feature the Jedi Knights, who use the Force for good, and the Sith Lords, who use the dark side for evil in an attempt to take over the galaxy.
In the Star Wars Miniatures Game, the Death Star Trooper is a new basic foot soldier for the Imperial faction. He's slightly more expensive than the standard Stormtrooper, with a lower Defense score and a higher Attack score. He has no special abilities, Force powers, or commander effect of his own, but as a trooper follower, he qualifies for a number of commander effects from other characters. Using the Death Star Trooper with other commanders is highly recommended, and can be effective when using multiple commanders, each with different commander effects.
The opening logo to the Star Wars films. The six Star Wars movies have provided a basis for over 100 novels. The novels have been officially authorized by Lucasfilm, and were previously published by Bantam Books (with a few early titles published by Ballantine), though Del Rey now holds the contract again. The stories told in these books reach back thousands of year's before The Phantom Menace to several generations after Return of the Jedi. Books authorized by Lucas are written by fans of the films, and are part of a collection known as Expanded Universe. The first books considered to be part of the Expanded Universe began to appear in the late 1970s.
In the Star Wars Miniatures Game, the Wookiee Freedom Fighter has some good strengths for its cost. Its high number of Hit Points make it tough enough to survive a few attacks, which is helpful because its relatively low Defense means those attacks are more likely to hit. A Freedom Fighter makes a good shield for weaker or higher-value characters.
Williams' score for Star Wars in 1977 set a new standard for science-fiction/fantasy films by drawing its inspiration primarily from a palette of Romantic rather than avant-garde music. In choosing this approach, Williams somewhat followed the lead of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which director Stanley Kubrick scored with preexisting classical works rather than an original score. (Alex North's original score was rejected and unused.) George Lucas set the first Star Wars to a temp track of concert works by Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Holst and others. Williams' score did not borrow material from these masterworks, but followed in their footsteps in terms of scope and, to some degree, harmonic language. Williams' scores for the original trilogy were primarily motif-based: individual characters and concepts were each given their own unique musical theme which would identify their presence in the film, whether physically or figuratively. By combining and varying these motifs, Williams could create a score possessed of a rich, interwoven fabric.

The Star Wars franchise began as a film series. The initial trilogy was comprised of three films: Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. The opening crawl of the sequels disclosed that they were numbered as "Episode V" and "Episode VI" respectively, though the films were generally advertised solely under their subtitles. Once Star Wars became a success and sequels were realized, Lucas numbered the initial film as the fourth episode in his series, and gave it the subtitle A New Hope when the film was re-released in 1981. This was among the first of what would become many changes Lucas has retroactively made to his original Trilogy.
