The film explores the origins of James T. Kirk, Spock and the crew of the USS Enterprise from the original "Star Trek" series and how these iconic characters came together. According to rumors, the story involves an elder Spock (Nimoy) following a group of Romulans (led by Nero, played by Bana) into the past to prevent them from killing a young Kirk (Pine) and ... altering the timeline. To do so, he will have to enlist the assistance of his younger self (Quinto).

After Enterprise was canceled in 2005, the Star Trek franchise found itself for the first time in over 25 years without a series or film in production or development. In April 2006, the official announcement of an eleventh feature film made it probable that the franchise has not yet ended.

This pair of Xindi simulated control buttons came off of a Xindi console from Star Trek: Enterprise. Made of blue plastic, each ‘button’ has a patterned sticker; one green, one blue, that gives it a Xindi appearance. Each measures approx. 2 inches diameter.

Lost creator JJ Abrams reboots the Star Trek franchise to an earlier era. Exactly how he'll do that remains unclear. The movie may tell the story of Kirk and Spock in their first mission together aboart the Enterprise, or it may spit in the face of fans and throw decades of continuity out the window to create a meeting between Kirk and Spock at Starfleet Academy.
