Star Fox Command has great controls and introduces a strategic layer that's fairly interesting. However, the random feel of the story battles and the frantic multiplayer mode don't make the most of this game's solid foundation, which might cause nostalgic fans to long for the series' good old days.

For the story it falls back deep into Star Fox lore. If you've been following the game series up till now all this will make sense, if not, well don't expect to understand all the creatures. It's really an action game and all you need to do is shoot and make it through your objectives. If you're in the percentage of people who care about the story here it deals with The Anglars who originated from Venom's ocean and they want to rule the galaxy. That's it, but the story will provide some twists as it goes along.

After one last name change, Namco finally released Star Fox: Assault to store shelves in February of 2005. It was intended to be released Christmas of 2004, but they had a delay due to fan requests that the game have a LAN mode. This required a total overhaul of the multiplayer engine and ... the option never saw the light of day. Fans had been waiting long enough for the next flight adventure, and Namco was not willing to risk negative publicity and another E3 showoff since there were already two such showings under that game's belt; thus it hit the shelves without the LAN ability. However, some interesting notes about the game point out that the main enemy presence in the story resembles that of the Borg from Star Trek. It was a humorous similarity in demeanor and goals.

In Star Fox: Assault the Zoness Sea Base is a dark, stormy area that appears to have recovered from the 64 pollution. This is ... shown in the Corneria level, on a billboard proclaiming "Zoness Water Quality Environmental Conference".

All of these methods are used in Star Fox Command. The game utilizes many cut scenes and briefings to familiarize the player with the progressing story and to fill him or her in on the mission at hand. It ... makes use of the turn-based strategy format to allow players to plan out a flight path for their pilots to undertake. If a pilot comes across an enemy, he or she must engage them and the mode switches to aerial combat mode.
