Star Fox Command: Missions
built 138 days ago
Star Fox: Assault was developed by Namco for the GameCube, the second title for the platform. The game emphasis returned to its roots with its trademark ship-based shooting. However, new features were added, such as the addition of on-foot missions. Assault was released to mixed reviews, with the main complaints being control problems, the short length of the main game, and the amount of on-foot missions.
In Star Fox 64, the mission on Fortuna is to regain control of a Cornerian base that Andross has captured. After enemy ships begin to leave the base the team learn that a bomb has been planted there. Before they can send someone to disarm it, the Star Wolf team launches an attack. If the player can shoot down all of the Star Wolf ships before the bomb goes off, Fox will fly inside and "take care of the bomb", otherwise the base explodes.

Unknown to many players ... were the elements of the game which were carried over from Star Fox 2. Star Wolf, the All Range Mode, and the Wolfen were reused from Star Fox 2 and played a pivotal role in the game, as you could not go through the game without having to go through these things at least once. Each mission also carried a score cap which the player had to meet or exceed to get a medal for that stage, with a requirement that the entire team survive. Collecting all the medals for every stage on the map would unlock an expert mode with more enemies, a smarter AI, and the fragility of the Arwing increased. It also had extras for multiplayer mode which could be unlocked for performing certain tasks; all of this gave the game a decent replay value.

This flight simulation mode is highly reminiscent of previous Star Fox franchise games, which all have some degree of space dog fighting. The only difference is players use the stylus to pilot their craft, and any button to discharge their weapons. These sequences occur in real time, and end when the mission is complete. Between missions, players select their path on a map which determines the difficulty and the ultimate outcome, bringing yet another layer of modality and interactivity to this game.
Titania ... makes an appearance in Star Fox: Assault as a multiplayer stage. It is larger than any other multiplayer-only map, causing some fans of the franchise to speculate it may once have been intended to be a single-player mission.
