Star Fox Command: Games
built 239 days ago
The single most impressive addition to Star Fox Command is the tactical gameplay contained within. Each level is composed of a map that is very similar to Advance Wars or Fire Emblem, although without the grid. Players are given an allotment of turns and are expected to maneuver their fighters to intercept enemies before they can attack the player's mothership, Great Fox. Obtaining items like missiles and time boosts, while avoiding the fog of war and no-fly zones gives the tactical gameplay more depth than most can expect from a simple action title. The problem occurs ... just as the tactical battles grow to truly impressive depth, the game ends. Star Fox Command isn't a long title by any means, and while completing the game can unlock many multiple pathways for further exploration on the next play-though, there is still a feeling that this feature of the game could have become so much more.

Gamespot - 75%: "The presentation in Star Fox Command is one of the highlights. The impressive 3D visuals do a lot to make the game more appealing. The ship designs look great, the game runs smoothly, and there are a number of different, good-looking environments to fly around in."

There’s not much variety in the gameplay either, but at least Star Fox Command tries to make up for it with its expansive story. Nintendo has crafted one of the most unintentionally hilarious storylines to show up in a video game in a long while. I’m not sure how many people out there are enamored with the antics of Fox, Krystal, Slippy and gang, but whoever they are, they’ll be very happy. There is all kinds of ridiculous drama – Fox kicks Krystal off the team because he’s concerned for her safety, Krystal joins the nefarious Star Wolf team, Slippy gets a girlfriend, and there’s still a gigantic talking cat named Katt with a thing for Falco. You’re forced down a linear path the first time you play the game, but upon subsequent plays, you can take different routes through the storyline. In total, there are well over fifty scenarios and a total of nine unique endings.

In addition to the story mode, Star Fox Command supports six-player local wireless play using just one copy of the game, as well as four-player online play. Online, you can engage in ranked "battle royale" matches against multiple opponents, or play one to three friends in free battle mode. No matter how you slice it, multiplayer matches play out roughly the same way each time, stripping out the story mode's strategic layer and concentrating solely on ship-to-ship combat. You fly around in an arena, gunning for other players while trying to evade anybody who's on your six. If you blow somebody up, that player instantly respawns in the arena but leaves behind a spinning star that can be collected. The player with the most stars once the time runs out is declared the winner, so there's a bit more to the competition than just gunning down your rivals.

Throughout the course of the game, however, the team re-assembles to thwart a new enemy, the Anglars, who are bent on destroying the Lylat system. During several of the stories Wolf O'Donnel along with Leon and Panther are plotting to trick Fox so they can remove the high bounties on their heads. Andrew who was belived dead after being shot down by an Aparoid has joined forces with the Anglars.

Star Fox Command is the next game in Nintendo's Star Fox game series bound for the Nintendo DS. It is ... the first Star Fox game for a handheld. According to Nintendo Power, the story takes place sometime after the events of Star Fox: Assault. The planet Venom, once thought to be barren, was apparently home to undiscovered acidic oceans. Within these waters lurks a new danger known as the Anglor race. The leader of the Anglor race plans on destroying the Lylat System, which Fox and crew must save once again.
