Stanley Clements stars in Republic's Pride of Maryland as an ambitious jockey named Frankie (an inside joke: most movie jockeys were played by Frankie Darro -- who plays a supporting role in this film!). After discovering a sure-fire method of winning all his races, Frankie is barred from competition when he bets on himself.

Stanley realized that he wanted a show-business career while he was in grammar school, and when he graduated he toured in vaudeville for two years. He then joined the touring company of the Major Bowes Amateur Hour. In 1941, he was signed to a contract by 20th Century Fox and appeared in several B films for the studio. After a short stint with the East Side Kids, he set out on his own again, this time landing roles in more prestigious pictures (his breakthrough role was as a jockey in the Alan Ladd feature "Salty O'Rourke"). His career was interrupted by military service in World War II, and when he returned, he began appearing in lower-budgeted films. He starred in a series of action/detective pictures at Allied Artists for producer Ben Schwalb and director Edward Bernds, and when Schwalb needed a replacement for Leo Gorcey in The Bowery Boys series, he asked Clements to step in. Clements comfortably settled into the role of Huntz Hall's sidekick, and co-starred in the final seven Bowery Boys comedies.

[O]f experiences with the longitudinal study begun in 1980, Stanley began exploring commitment as a major research focus (Stanley, 1986). Since 1984, Stanley has been developing various measures of commitment related dimensions to aid in better understanding what helps healthy and satisfied couples stay that way. Dr. Markman, Lisa LaViolette, and Elizabeth Collins have played roles in this work. Historically, there has been little research on commitment, especially given the obvious importance of the construct in marriage. However, there is an increasingly substantial body of theory and research related to commitment. The current versions of PREP as well as Christian PREP take advantage of this body of knowledge to help couples develop and strengthen their levels of mutual dedication to one another.

Alan Ladd stars as a smooth racetrack promoter who tries to get out of debt by cleaning up a punk jockey (Stanley Clements) and winning a big race. Also starring Gail Russell and William Demarest as Ladd's trusty sidekick. Very good quality aside from some splices at the beginning and end.
