Stan Kroenke: Americans
built 157 days ago
Kroenke, who is ... a co-owner of the St. Louis Rams, is the latest American businessman to invest in a European soccer team. Tom Hicks and George Gillette Jr. recently completed their takeover of Liverpool. Hicks owns baseball’s Texas Rangers and the NHL’s Dallas Stars, and Gillette owns the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

Kroenke is hardly a pioneer, though, leading a wagon train full of cash through the uncharted frontier of European soccer. He would merely become the fifth American to buy a team in the English Premier League, following Malcolm Glazer at Manchester United, Tom Hicks and George Gillett at Liverpool and Randy Lerner at Aston Villa.

Any takeover deal would place Kroenke at the end of a growing list of Americans that have bought their way into the Premiership. Ahead of him were Thomas Hicks and George Gillett, (Liverpool), Randy Lerner, (Aston Villa) and the trailblazer, Malcolm Glazer (Manchester United).
