By the time the St. Lucie Mets defeated the Osceola Astros for the '88 FSL championship, Apodaca and Hurdle were months into a relationship that would blossom into nearly two decades of friendship and successful professional association. They already were finishing each other's sentences then as they do now when certain pitching aspects of the 2007 National League champions require discussion.

The St. Lucie Mets announced today that Frank Cacciatore will manage the St. Lucie Mets in 2007. Cacciatore will be the 12th manager in team history. Last year, Cacciatore’s first season with the Mets, he managed the Hagerstown Suns, the Mets single-A affiliate in the South Atlantic League, to a 58-82 record.

Though the offense hung around in Game 2, due to shaky pitching performances, St. Lucie found itself in a back and forth game. With the score tied at one in the top of the fifth inning, the Mets posted a five-spot with RBIs from the heart of the order.

Apodaca and Hurdle spent four seasons together -- 1988 in St. Lucie, 1990 with Double-A Jackson and 1992 and 1993 with Triple-A Tidewater. Hurdle was not rehired following the '93 season. Steve Phillips, then the Mets' Minor League director, had differences with Hurdle. As the Mets' general manager, 6 1/2 years later, Phillips dismissed Apodaca as New York's pitching coach.

The St. Lucie bats collected eight hits in the win, three by 3B Aaron Baldiris (3-4, Run, RBI). Baldiris, while having his 10th straight game without an extra base hit, extended his hitting streak to six games Thurday (hitting .435 during the streak) and raking in his second three-hit game in three games. RF Alhaji Turay (1-4, RBI) extended his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI single in his final at-bat of the game. 1B Brett Harper (1-3, Run, 3 RBI) had a two-RBI double in the 8th inning to hit safely in seven of his last eight games (.367 during that stretch).
