St Johnstone: Ball
built 614 days ago
St Johnstone were only behind for six minutes. A lovely reverse pass by Paul Sheerin found the well-timed run of Hardie, who lifted the ball over Boruc into the goal. McDonald then came close for Saints with a raking shot.
Four minutes later the ever dangerous and highly impressive Liam Buchanan burst through the St Johnstone defence with his chipped effort missing target but just a matter of inches. Immediately following that David Rowson saw his cross nearly find the net, the ball clipping the bar on the way over.

The first half was a pretty decent spell of football, but it was clear that St Johnstone were really beginning to take charge of the game. It only took them three minutes of the second half to get the goal that cancelled out Accies lead. Mark McLaughlin clearly held back Andy Jackson to prevent him from trying to shoot on goal and the penalty was rightly awarded. It seemed and unnecessary foul to concede and Paul Sheerin cracked the ball into the top corner. The goal gave the home side a real boost and a second goal seemed inevitable given how much possession they enjoyed. Mark Gilhaney had a terrific run when he received the ball inside his own half and then beat several defenders down the left wing before cutting into the penalty area.

image The noise inside Tynecastle was deafening as St. Johnstone kicked off towards the Gorgie Road Stand but it was Hibernian who were to go straight on the attack. Shiels showed fine individual skill near the corner flag as he beat Stanik not once but twice before being fouled. From the free kick Stanik made amends by heading clear for the Perth side. After only two and a half minutes Hibernian opened the scoring for a dream start, Murphy fed the ball down the left to Sproule, the winger made for the by-line before delivering an inch perfect cut back that was despatched clinically by Steven Fletcher for his ninth goal of the season. A better start Hibs could not have wished for and the Hibs supporters were in full voice.
