St. Francis College: Physical Education
built 211 days ago
St. Francis Normal became a four-year, state approved institution, which became Marian College. In 1937, Mother Clarissa Dillhoff, who had led the community since 1926, took the "preposterous step" to move Marian College from Oldenburg to the site of the former Allison estate in Indianapolis. This venture was undertaken to provide college education for lay women. Accredited by the Indiana State Department of Education in 1944, Marian became the state’s first Catholic co-educational college in 1954 and continues today as a liberal arts college with strong professional programs.
All St. Francis students and their parents are invited to the annual College Fair at the College of DuPage on Wednesday, Sept. 19. It will be held from 6:00 to 8:30 PM in the Physical Education and Community Recreation Center . Approximately 250 colleges, universities, and service academies from across the country will be represented. In addition, a Financial Aid Presentation will take place that evening at 6:30 , 7:15 , and 8:00 PM . If students cannot attend the COD College Fair they may want to attend the NACAC College Fair in Chicago on Saturday, October 20 from 10 AM until 3 PM . Other area college fairs will be held at Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove on October 1, 6— 8:30 PM and Elgin Community College on October 2, 6— 8:30 PM.

More than 80 percent of the students at St. Francis receive some form of financial aid. A comprehensive financial aid program enables the College to offer eligible students financial aid packages that consist of combinations of scholarships, grants, loans, and student employment. A typical student receives more than $7000 in scholarships, grants, and government support. Financial assistance is available from the TAP, Federal Pell Grant, and Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant Programs. Merit scholarships provided by the College can enhance government funds and range from $1500 to full tuition. Students seeking assistance for the academic year must file the appropriate College forms by February 15 in order for their financial aid to be processed.

The legacy of St. Francis can ... be felt in the strong liberal arts core and tradition of social consciousness of all the University's academic programs. "Educate to Serve" is at the heart of the University's programs, whether it be the College of Osteopathic Medicine, the many other health professions, or programs such as environmental studies, marine science and education.
