The SSX Tricky site has gone live - dishing out the info on the sequel to the Electronic Art's ultra-successful PS2 snowboarder. With all sorts of insider dish on tricks, screenshots, character bios, cool movies and mp3s, it's a veritable avalanche (groan) of information. The Gamecube version of SSX Tricky manages to retain the most important quality of the PS2 version - the fun - despite having a few flaws. This is a very good game, and while it's not quite as polished as the PS2, it's still worth the money for Gamecube owners.

The biggest problem with SSX 3 is that it's not SSX 3 Tricky. The two best features of SSX Tricky were the announcer Rahzel Brown and the rift from Run-DMC's It's Tricky when you completed a series of good tricks. There's no voice telling you what tricks you did, or other help, but there is an annoying voice telling you when you have new email (yes, the game sends you lame in-game emails which make AOL chatrooms look mature).

The control system behind SSX Tricky is extremely friendly and easy to pick up. You use the direction pad while on the ground to pull up, lean forward or guide your border left or right. A jump button allows you to crouch and prepare to jump, a turbo button allows you to use the boost that you’ve built up by executing tricks and the shoulder buttons used in concert with the directional pad will allow you to perform a wide variety of special tricks an maneuvers. If you build up enough boost points, you’ll have a limited amount of time to execute a special über-trick. Each character has four special über-tricks that feature impossibly complex and over the top maneuvers, most including intricate grabs, dance or gymnastics maneuvers performed high above the mountain. The expanded and freshened trick system lends a new wrinkle to what was already a fun concept last year.

In the first SSX, there was the ability to get huge air and amazing grabs, but SSX Tricky expands on this to a larger level. The game will ... include brand new tricks that will only be able to be accomplished when huge air is gained, allowing for tremendous rewards. These tricks are wonderfully animated and most of them take the player of his/her board while performing them.
