Spyware Doctor is a spyware removal product for Microsoft Windows developed by PC Tools. It scans a PC for spyware, examining files on the hard drive, objects in memory, the Windows registry and cookies, and then attempts to quarantine or remove recognized threats. It ... includes real-time protection which attempts to block threats from being saved to the disk, set to startup automatically, suspicious programs running and other detection including new toolbars and add-ons for web browsers.

Spyware Doctor is advanced technology designed especially for people, not just experts. That is one reason why it won the People's Choice Award in 2005, 2006 and 2007. It is automatically configured out of the box to give you optimal protection with limited interaction so all you need to do is install it for immediate and ongoing protection.

Spyware may get installed via certain shareware programs offered for download. Downloading programs only from reputable sources can provide some protection from this source of attack. Recently, CNet revamped its download directory: it has stated that it will only keep files that pass inspection by Ad-Aware and Spyware Doctor.

The free version of Ad-Aware isn't as robust or effective as Spy Sweeper or Spyware Doctor. Ad-Aware doesn't offer real-time protection or scheduled system scans, but it makes a good supplement to your primary anti-spyware program, since reviews say no single spyware removal tool can catch all threats. As the free Ad-Aware doesn't have real-time monitoring, it doesn't drain system resources except when scanning. The commercial version of Ad-Aware is not recommended in reviews.
