In this feature presentation, SpongeBob SquarePants and his pals are on the ultimate underwater adventure as they travel to Atlantis to meet with Lord Royal Highness. The TV movie premieres on Nickelodeon Monday, Nov. 12, 8:00-8:45pm e/p. A 12-hour marathon of favorite SpongeBob episodes will air in reverse alphabetical order (Z to A) beginning at 9:00am e/p. The letter will represent either a word in the title or a theme in the episode. The marathon ends with "Atlantis SquarePantis" ("A" for Atlantis).
Stephen Hillenburg, the creator, stopped making new episodes in 2002 to work on the feature length film, The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004). Because of this Nickelodeon had eight unaired episodes which they air at the rate of two or three a year. more

"Soon children will be able to meet SpongeBob SquarePants in his own world rather than just watching the yellow sea sponge cartoon character on television. Nickelodeon, the children's multi-media entertainment brand owned by Viacom Inc, has agreed a deal to set up a 15,000 square-meter adventure park in Germany where its most popular characters will be brought to life. 'Nickland' will be situated at Movie Park Germany, close to Dortmund in western Germany, and is set to open in April, Nickelodeon and Movie Park Germany said in a statement on Tuesday." The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is filled with the slapstick-style physical violence so typical of most kid-targeting cartoons. SpongeBob slaps a fish in a mock interrogation scene. King Neptune hits his squire over the head every time he says something wrong. The underworld king ... sets Mr. Krabs’ pants on fire and freezes him into a block of ice. A pursuing hit man gets walloped on the head by an approaching boat. Patrick crashes into a stage-area, setting it on fire.

On Sunday, Nov. 25 during The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie feature film (7:00 - 9:00 p.m.), Nickelodeon will ... sneak peek clips of three new Nicktoons coming in 2008, including The Mighty B! starring SNL’s Amy Poehler as the world’s most ambitious and lovably unhinged “Honeybee” scout.

The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie earned over $85,000,000 in revenue in the United States, considered to be under-expectations: People assumed that the show's popularity showed something of a decline at the time of its release. However, unlike The Rugrats Movie (which was considered to be Rugrats jump the shark moment), the SpongeBob movie was actually generally well received by fans who saw it.
