The Spice Girls are an English all-female pop group, formed in London in 1994. The Spice Girls, consisting of: Geri Halliwell, Melanie Chisholm, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown, and Victoria Beckham signed to Virgin Records and released their debut single, "Wannabe", in 1996. The song went on to spend seven weeks atop the UK Singles Chart and helped establish the group as an "international phenomenon"[1] who went on to release three studio albums and ten singles, selling in excess of 55 million records world wide.[2]

The Spice Girls group consisted of five members but on May 31, 1998, Geri Halliwell announced her departure from the Spice Girls. Geri’s departure from the group shocked fans and became one of the biggest entertainment news stories of the year. The four remaining girls were adamant though that the group would carry on.
The Spice Girls came back at the 2000 BRIT Awards, and it was announced that they had received the Outstanding Lifetime Achievement Award. Despite being at the event, Geri Halliwell did not join her former bandmates on stage.
[I]tem-hungry "journalists" all over are making a big deal about the Spice Girls "singing in the nude"--with their naughtiest bits covered up by props--on their upcoming world tour. Sure, the promise of bare boobies = Mad Google Love (hi, horndogs!), but the frenzy over this is making me wonder if I'm one of the few working writers out there who actually listened to the deep cuts on Spice, or who saw the group on its world tour, because as you can see from the above clip, this isn't exactly a never-been-done-before concept for the Spices, and between this and the wan "Headlines" I'm starting to get a little nervous about this tour being the same thing I saw back in 2000, only, you know, more expensive, and with Geri this time.

Spice Girls Emma Bunton [B]ecame the third current Spice Girl to enjoy a UK solo number 1 single when What Took You So Long topped the charts in April 2001. However, her subsequent releases had disappointing sales and she followed Melanie B. in being dropped by her record label as a solo album. She reurned to her former manager, Simon Fuller . Victoria Beckham suffered the same fate - despite her clever manipulation of the media on her part in keeping her in the public eye, it failed to increase record sales. It has to be said her solo work has been disappointing at best. And Halliwell's solo albums, despite chart topping singles, have ... suffered ever diminishing sales in all territories.
Well rumors have been running rampant across the Internet that Ginger Spice's fellow band mates have been trying to set her up with Hollywood movie star George Clooney, who earlier this month announced that Geri was his favorite Spice Girl. Melanie Brown recently told U.S. media that Geri is indeed single.
