From the start, Speed Racer Enterprises tried to reel in all the episodes from the bankruptcy holdings, and then attempted to strike new licenses for toys, model kits, clothing and memorabilia. Very few tie-in items were produced during Speed Racer’s initial run before the existence of Speed Racer Enterprises. Because the original show was syndicated, it did not run in all markets, therefore there was a riskthat toys would have languished on shelves in markets where the 30-minute episodes did not air.

Speed Racer was ... featured in a 30 second advertisement for GEICO Insurance in 2004. In the ad, Speed is advised that the bridge is out ahead. That's bad news for Speed Racer, but Trixie, who transmitted the news to him that she saw in her helicopter, is more concerned with her good news about the Geico savings. The next shot of Speed shows him struck dumb in bewildered astonishment.

The new "Speed Racer" comes as Lionsgate continues to expand its family entertainment biz, with a live-action "Bratz" movie coming out this August, as well as two more feature films on the docket: "Foodfight!" and "Sylvester and the Magic Pebble."
