Speed Racer was the story of Speed, an 18 year old racing driver and his adventures on and off the track. On his helmet was printed M, originally standing for "Go Mifune" his original Japanese name. His girlfriend was Trixie, his younger brother Spritle, and Spritle's pet monkey was named Chim Chim. Speed's mechanic and best friend was Sparky. Speed's older brother was Rex, who ... played Racer X- a masked racer with even Speed not knowing his real identity, and was an undercover agent. He had left home years ago and none of his family had seen him since.

Other characters returning include original Speed Racer's younger brother Spritle, now headmaster of the racing academy. And chimpanzee Chim-Chim is now a mechanical robot. Peter Fernandez, who voiced Speed Racer in the dubbed American version of the original "Speed Racer," is aboard to voice Spritle.

In the Nickelodeon TV movie Channel Chasers, Timmy Turner ends up in a cartoon that is a parody of Speed Racer except it is titled "Go Go Racer." The spoof was complete with limited animation, narrative style, music, and witty dialogue style, with Timmy Turner playing Speed Racer, his Future self (voiced by Alec Baldwin) as Racer X, Wanda as Spritle and Cosmo as Chim-chim. The title's "Go Go..." part was probably influenced by the Japanese name of Mach Go Go Go.
