The two most important rivers in Spain are the Ebro and the Guadalquivir. Their broad valleys bound the central plateau, the Ebro to the northeast and the Guadalquivir to the south. The two rivers lie entirely within Spain, and their mouths form the country’s only major deltas, the Ebro on the Mediterranean and the Guadalquivir on the Atlantic. The Ebro and the Guadalquivir are ... Spain’s only navigable rivers. The Guadalquivir River, flowing through a fertile plain in the south, is the deepest river in Spain and the only one navigable for any extensive distance. Large ships can travel only a short distance inland on the Ebro.

Pictures of You, Pictures of Me on Spanish Sunshine Zapatero’s government is likewise busy preparing for reelection on January 9 but even the opposition bloc here in Spain has admired Zapatero’s indefatigability in dealing with other heads of state to secure deals advantageous to the country. Already, Zapatero is compared to French President Nicholas Sarkozy who is ... equally indefatigable in meeting with various heads of state since the start of 2008. But even the opposition bloc in Spain admits that Zapatero has used public money for public welfare unlike his French counterpart who has mixed his political soirees with personal ones and is often seen dating model Carla Bruni in elaborate and exotic locales as the Disneyland resort in Paris as well as Jordan and Egypt.

Spain has a number of descendants of populations from former colonies (especially Equatorial Guinea) and immigrants from several Sub-Saharan and Caribbean countries have been recently settling in Spain. There are ... sizeable numbers of Asian immigrants, most of whom are of Chinese, Filipino, Middle Eastern, Pakistani and Indian origins; the population of Spaniards of Latin American descent is sizeable as well and a fast growing segment. Other growing groups are Britons (761,000 in 2006), Germans and other immigrants from western and Eastern Europe.

[F]ar this year, Spain has seen a 23 percent increase in the number of Americans visiting. They come to experience firsthand the country's art, architecture and its tremendously rich culture. The Iberians, Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Moors and Jews all left their marks on the cultural mosaic that is Spain's civilization. Yet beyond the centuries-old castles and cathedrals and charming unspoiled villages, Spain's cities now have a cool, modern vibe with hip new design hotels and trendy restaurants. And throughout the country, architects are designing dramatic airports, stunning new museums, state-of-the-art performing arts centers, spectacular wineries and mega-yacht marinas. For today's travelers, Spain offers a pulsating energy, non-stop nightlife, friendly people and arguably the best cuisine in the world.
Spain's mixed capitalist economy supports a GDP that on a per capita basis is 80% that of the four leading West European economies. Its center-right government successfully worked to gain admission to the first group of countries launching the European single currency on January 1, 1999. The administration of Jose Maria Aznar has continued to advocate liberalisation, privatisation, and deregulation of the economy and has introduced some tax reforms to that end. Unemployment has been steadily falling under the Aznar administration but remains the highest in the EU at 13%. The government intends to make further progress in changing labour laws and reforming pension schemes, which are key to the sustainability of both Spain's internal economic advances and its competitiveness in a single currency area. Spain is the second tourism destination in the World after France.
