Spain has a plethora of beaches scattered across its 5,000km of coast. No matter what one's taste, be it for long beaches, short beaches, wavy beaches, calm beaches, busy beaches, or quiet beaches there are plenty of beaches for one to beach at! Some of the most popular beaches are those on the south-eastern coast and the Canary and Balearic Islands. If one seeks less touristy beaches, the south-western coast is good place to look. Regardless of where you decide to go, you will be on a beach, in Spain no less!, and that is a very good thing.

Wherever you are in Spain, from your private yacht you can enjoy gorgeous scenery and distance yourself from the inevitable crowds of tourists that flock to these destinations. May is a particularly pleasant time to charter in the regions of Costa Brava, Costa Blanca and the Balearic Islands as the weather is good and the crowds have yet to descend. The summer months of July and August are the hottest and tend to have lighter winds. There is no low season for the Canary Islands, as the weather resembles springtime all year round. If you would like to bareboat anywhere in Spain, including the Balearic or Canary Islands, a US Coast Guard License is the only acceptable certification needed by Americans to bareboat. For everyone else, a RYA Yacht Master Certification or International Certificate of Competence will normally do.

Civilization in Spain dates back to the Stone Age. The Basques may be descended from the prehistoric humans whose art has been preserved in the caves at Altamira. They antedated the Iberians, who mixed with Celtic invaders at an early period. Because of its mineral and agricultural wealth and its position guarding the Strait of Gibraltar, Spain was known to the Mediterranean peoples from very early times.
