Space Taxi

The Space Taxi is probably the least desirable of the series as witnessed by the number still on the shelves of the local hobby shop. No scale is given, but it appears to be around 1/48 judging by the size of the figures included. The space taxi itself was to be a general purpose cargo, passenger vehicle used for short range transport. There was a cargo container that contained the standing pilot and space in a fore and aft cage for suited passengers. In this same caged area were the two thruster rockets. No side maneuvering thrusters are shown so moving this thing around would have been quite a challenge, to say the least.

"Space Taxi" is a dot to dot math activity where the dots are planets and the player must get the space ship from the start planet to the end planet. Each planet has a number and the player must figure out the pattern or sequence to complete the activity. Click on the start planet and the second planet in the sequence will be highlighted and the rest is up to you.

Space Taxi is a retro style arcade game where you pilot your space cab around increasingly difficult levels picking up and delivering a variety of characters including businessmen, aliens, and robots. At first it's a simple pickup and delivery, but as the game progresses you'll have to navigate obstacles like space cannons, monsters, minefields, black holes, and bad weather.

Space Taxi was ported to the Amiga by Andreas Spreen. The ported version... had a different set of levels and minor modifications to the game rules. Most prominently, landing on top of a customer no longer made him leave. An attempt at a more faithful port was Galactic Taxi, but the game never made it past prototype stage.

Space Taxi made from Shuttle external tank orbiting the Moon. Note the highly expanded vacuum nozzles with black carbon-carbon external coating of high emmissivity to radiate heat. Nozzles are lined with magnesia or titania.

Space Taxi 2 is a great remake. Sure the rendering looks a little bit basic, but games like this are judged by their ability to give you the same smooth gameplay without taking anything away. And they do.
