Space Rangers

A big change for this incarnation of Space Rangers is the inclusion of a full 3D real time strategy engine. Dominators, in one way or another, set up shop on a planet and must be eliminated. You begin with a single base on one of eighteen different maps and are trusted to dispose of the invaders through more efficient production of your own forces. Each robot you produce is fully customizable and can be given tank treads, flamethrowers or other equipment based on your needs and resources. The strategy here isn't as deep as a full-fledged RTS like Starcraft, but working and enjoyable nonetheless. Most importantly, if this style of game isn't your cup of tea, you can simply go to the next planet and get a different mission altogether.

Space Rangers 2 Taking place 200 years after the first installment of Space Rangers, the player is warped to the year 3300. The galaxy has enjoyed a fairly peaceful period since the end of the Klissan War. The races of Humans have increased their ties with the other races of the galaxy: the Maloqs, the Pelengs, the Faeyans, and the Gaalians. All is well and good till reports that sentient machines, called Dominators, have rebelled and begun dominating the galaxy. These machines are relentless and super intelligent with each machine possessing their own unique programs. The good news is that there are three different groups of these cyborg; the Blazeroids, the Kelleroids, and the Terronoids, and fortunately for you, they don't like one another.

Space Rangers 2 screenshot In Space Rangers 2 the player will ... have a possibility to prove his superiority not only in the space, but on the planets as well. Planetary battles are a 3D real-time strategy. Using the firepower of the combat robots, the player will have to stand up to the Dominators - the intelligent war machines that know no mercy!
Freedom of choice is a distinguishing feature of the first part of Space Rangers saga and only develops further as players explore the massive world. The game is not limited by borders and allows players an opportunity to influence the branching storyline. At the same time, the larger and more expansive game world lives and develops by itself. In Space Rangers 2 players will have an opportunity to test their skills not only in outer space, but on planets' surface as well. 3D real-time battles on planets is a new part of the game introduced to the players. By producing and upgrading war machines, gamers have a chance to defeat the ominous threat of the Dominators.

The depth and breadth of Space Rangers 2: Rise of the Dominators is amazing. You start in the home solar system for your race, take on some quests there, and then extend to other systems. Each planet in each system has fully realized worlds with active markets, different political systems and interesting problems. While in space you meet up with interesting characters, each of whom seems to have a well-developed personality. You meet pirates, traders, and pilots more and less experienced. There are over fifty Space Rangers across the galaxy, and you can check your ranking to see how your progress stands up to theirs.

Apparently this game, as well as the original Space Rangers game, was designed and released in Russian before being translated to English for the US release. The fact that it's translated isn't bad, because lots of games are translated. The problem is that the translation, although getting the point across, isn't top-notch. You'll find yourself being pulled out of the game experience by sentence fragments and some frankly strange phrases.
