The Space Coast is a region in the U.S. state of Florida around Kennedy Space Center, where the U.S. Air Force and NASA frequently launch rockets and shuttles into space. Cities in the area include Titusville, Cocoa, Merritt Island (unincorporated), Cocoa Beach, Melbourne and Palm Bay; and most of the area lies within Brevard County.

Space Shuttle lauches are infrequent but if you're lucky and on the Space Coast during a launch window, you might actually witness one of these spectacular launches while fishing on the surrounding lagoons. The Merritt Island wildlife refuge in the northern part of Brevard County with it's boundries partially defined by the Mosquito Lagoon to the north and the Banana River Lagoon to the south host some of the best redfish and speckled sea trout fishing in the world. there are hefty sized snook, opportunity tarpon fishing and if you venture offshore you'll be treated to reel sizzling action for kingfish, cobia, shark and a meriad of other offshore species.

The new contracts cover approximately 1,500 employees supporting Boeing Integrated Defense Systems operations in Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Torrance and Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.; Huntsville and Decatur, Ala.; and the Space Coast of Florida. Workers will begin to return to work on Feb. 6.

West of the Space Coast, the river is still surrounded by immense floodplains covered with sawgrass, chord grass, arrowhead, willows, hammocks and hardwood forests. In spring and fall, wildflowers bloom profusely in vast fields along the floodplain. Yearly water levels fluctuate dramatically, depending on rainfall. During rainy season, serpentine channels disappear as the river swells over the floodplain, forming an immense body of water with just the tops of palm trees and cypress visible. Largemouth bass and crappie are abundant, and fishing is terrific, especially when the water is low and fish are concentrated in deep holes along the channels.

If said properly (3, 2, 1), it resembles the countdown before liftoff; ... the resident petitioned for the code to be assigned to the Space Coast region. His efforts were popular among local residents and resulted in success; the new code became effective on November 1, 1999.[2][3]
