Southside Virginia Community College is constantly striving to create programs to reach a wider segment of the service area population. One such program is the Southside Pre-Engineering Academy held in the Amelia/Nottoway VoTech Center. This program is the first of its type in Virginia. The Southside Pre-Engineering Academy provides advanced classes in science, math, and engineering to qualified high school juniors and seniors. The credits earned through this program provide students with the opportunity to graduate from Southside Virginia Community College before graduating from high school. Participation in this program allows the student the opportunity to begin a Bachelor’s Program in one of the various disciplines of Engineering at an accelerated rate.

Southside Virginia Community College will continue to work with the Southside Planning District, Piedmont Planning District, Crater Planning District, and Virginia Heartland Industries to bring new industries to Virginia. The College will ... encourage attendance at locally sponsored economic development events and festivals designed to bring tourism to local areas. In this way the College puts a “human face” on its institution.
