Since the discovery of oil at Spindletop in 1901, Southeast Texas has had a sound petro-chemical industrial base. The region is home to many Fortune 500 companies and most have been here for decades. The giants of the chemical and petrochemical industries are prevalent in the Beaumont/Port Arthur/Orange area. Pulp and paper companies chose the wooded areas on the northern perimeter of the region. Service and support companies that complement these industries are ... well-established. The area's broad abundance of natural resources has also attracted oil production, ship building, and tourism.
Compared to the rest of the state, Southeast Texas's climate is warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. On average, the region is the wettest part of the state. The relatively mild and wet climate is largely due to the influence of the Gulf of Mexico. Average annual rainfall in the Golden Triangle is 60 inches (1500 mm). Rainfall totals in other parts of Southeast Texas are lower, but still in excess of 40 inches (1000 mm) per year. During Tropical Storm Claudette in 1979, the city of Alvin recorded an official 24-hour rainfall total of 42 inches (1067 mm) — the highest one-day rainfall total ever measured in the United States.
Fund Raising- The National Kidney Foundation of Southeast Texas would be unable to continue its important work in the community without the support of the public. Fund raising helps to build community awareness and raise much-needed revenue for patient services and programs.
