Sonny Bono
built 658 days ago
Bono had always taken pride in never having been taken too seriously, and according to the New York Times, he was almost proud of his lack of qualifications. He settled down to work, showed interest in protecting the environment and was according to the New York Times, "the second most popular fundraiser behind House Speaker Newt Gingrich." He was well-liked by his colleagues as a member of the Judiciary and National Security committees. He was re-elected in 1996.

In 1947, whilst on a bargain tour of Romania, Sonny was captured by a ravaging gang of gypsies, tramps, and thieves, who were led by their illustrious leader Cher. After many years of petty bickering, the two were married in a quiet ceremony on the Love Boat.

[B]eing the odd-man-in may have been the ultimate secret weapon of Bono's eclectic and far-flung career. Possessed of hangdog looks and a sinus-challenged voice, pop's first Bono was both Svengali and self-deprecating shlub, a savvy businessman and a willing punching bag. Long before his star-making years with Cher, his second of four wives, Bono was the scrappy, determined outsider who was driven to be somebody, even if it meant being somebody's fool.
